You Already Hurt Your Back, Didn't You.😑

You Already Hurt Your Back, Didn't You.😑

Nobody clocks in expecting to get hurt. But back injuries are one of the most common problems for shift workers and most of them are preventable. Here's what actually matters.

The basics everyone skips

Before you lift anything, get close to it. The further the load is from your body, the harder your back works. Step in, close the gap, then lift.

Bend your knees, not your back

Everyone knows this one. Nobody does it. Bending at the waist puts all the strain on your spine. Bending your knees keeps the work in your legs, the strongest part of your body. Let them do the job.

Keep your back straight

Not arched, not rounded, just straight. If you feel your back curving under the weight, the load is too heavy to lift alone. Ask for help.

Don't twist

Lifting and turning at the same time is how injuries happen. Lift first. Then move your feet. Two moves, not one.

Breathe

Breathe out as you lift. Holding your breath adds pressure and strain. It sounds small but it adds up over a long shift.

Know your limit

There is no prize for lifting something you shouldn't. If it's too heavy or awkward, get help or use equipment. One bad lift can put you out for weeks.

The bottom line

Your back keeps score. Every sloppy lift adds up. Ten seconds of good form is worth more than a week on the couch. ⚙️
